No Year's Resolutions

It's New Year's Eve
and where am I?
Closer to the start
back at the roots
with less than when I set foot

It's New Year's Eve
and where am I?
Sitting on my couch
Cranking this out
for no one who really gives a damn

It's New Year's Eve
and where am I?
Right here, writing
With no real goals
and a year past that I'd much rather forget

WYMAT 6: Isochronic Tones

Sorry about the long wait all. I've been very busy with school and whatnot. Anyways lets get back on track with these posts!

Thanks to Stumble Upon, I found this interesting website. It has a bunch of tracks on there that are supposed to activate your brain in one way or another through the use of different frequencies and sound wavelengths. If you want to feel something different and have some time on your hands, check it out here at http://www.iso-tones.com/tones.html

It may be a little bit annoying at first, but you'll quickly get past it.

Now go and WYMAT

WYMAT #5: Universe vs. Brain Cell

Holy moley. On this WYMAT, I've found a link between our brain and our universe, well someone else has, but I'm exposing it to those of you who don't know. Here's the picture (click to view full image and read captions):

WYMAT. It's crazy.

Green-Eyed Look

Alright, just to be clear, this is only my first draft of it and it's about no one in particular. I just looked in the mirror, saw that I had green eyes that day, and wrote. It's not really in any particular order. Hope you enjoy:

He's got that smirk upon that face
He's got that green-eyed look
The face of uncontainable craze
That look I never mistook

Comin' in on a drinkin' streak
Been poundin' the past few days
Fixin' to start a fight tonight
With the first who passes his gaze

Too much whiskey, too many pints
Blood slowly thinning
Alcohol now his main source of fuel
Whimsical, drunk, and grinning

Family straight from Ireland
Once a child misbegotten
The past has been ingrained in his mind
His heritage ne'er forgotten

This man is in shambles, his life is a mess
so watch out for his green-eyed look

WYMAT #4: Dimensions

The inspiration for this WYMAT post was shown to me by my little brother, as he likes mind-warping things as well. The videos below explain the concept of dimensions. It may take you a little while to get, so you may need to watch it a couple of times.

Now go and WYMAT!

Bruin

Right to the head
something's a brewin'.
I can feel it in my limbs,
in these old bones.
No need for more caffeine
time to switch up drinks.
All this for naught.
Saw it a long time comin'.
We gotta go soon.
It can't end up well.
Get outta this here hole.
Get back where we came from.
I'm overwhelmed.
It's pressing down.
I can feel it in my limbs,
in these old bones.
Up ahead is daunting,
ready to strike any moment.
Within a blink
we could be gone.
Take cover and pray.
Shield your own head.
It should all wind down soon.
Saw it a long time comin'.
Oh boy was I right!
What a bruin it was!
I felt it in these limbs,
in these old bones.

WYMAT 3: Cheesy

Hello all. Tonight's WYMAT is brought to you by Californian farmers: "Great cheese come from happy cows. Happy cows from California."
Actually, this edition comes from a comic by Candy Chang (site here). Most of this comes from a carton of milk: "Okay. Say all you ever ate was cheese...All you got was one type of cheese...So all your life you eat is smoked swiss...You love smoked swiss, but that's all you eat. ever....How does it taste?...Smoky, but you don't know what smoky tastes like because you've never had anything not smoky!...Okay. So one day you are introduced to all the cheeses of the world. You get to eat them all...everything tastes better...your smoked swiss tasted better because now you know what makes it so special and your appreciation of smoked swiss gives you a better understanding of all the other cheeses."

WYMAT and apply...

WYMAT once again (#2)

Time for yet another WYMAT update. I finally found something, thanks to StumbleUpon, that took me a while to decipher and understand. This comes from a great story about an engineer at some conference (Link here -> http://www.fudco.com/chip/deconstr.html ):

"The essential paradigm of cyberspace is creating partially situated identities out of actual or potential social reality in terms of canonical forms of human contact, thus renormalizing the phenomenology of narrative space and requiring the naturalization of the intersubjective cognitive strategy, and thereby resolving the dialectics of metaphorical thoughts, each problematic to the other, collectively redefining and reifying the paradigm of the parable of the model of the metaphor."

Catch that language? If you did, I encourage you to sit on that for a while.

WYMAT,
Stuart Landers

WYMAT pilot

Hello to all who came across this. I am starting a series of posts called WYMAT (Wrap Your Mind Around This). I plan to put up things that may cause you to think and mess with your mind just a bit. If you like it, show it to your friends. Anyone is able to read this. As this is my first post, I wish you all happy reading.

This first post is from a band I came across a year ago, Giraffes? Giraffes! They are a very mathematically-based, experimental rock band from Massachusetts. This excerpt is from the song, "I am s/h(im)e[r] as you am s/h(im)e[r] as you are me and we am I and I are all our together: Our collective consciousness’ psychogenic fugue". It appears at 7:00 minutes into the song.

Spoken from recording:" Let's suppose that you were able, every night, to dream any dream you wanted to dream. And that you could, for example, have the power within one night to dream 75 years of time, or any length of time you wanted to have. And you would, naturally, as you began on this adventure of dreams, you would fulfill all your wishes. You would have every kind of pleasure that you could perceive. And after several nights of 75 years of total pleasure each, you would say, 'Well, that was pretty great! But now let's, um, let's have a surprise. Let's have a dream which isn't under control, where something is going to happen to me that I don't know what it's going to be.' And you would do that and come out of that and say, 'Wow, that was a close shave, wasn't it?' Then you would get more adventurous and you would make further and further out-gambles as to what you would dream. Finally, you would dream where you are now. You would dream the dream of living the life that you are actually living today."

WYMAT,
Stuart

The Last Question

Isaac Asimov is a genius. An author and professor of biochemistry with over 500 books edited/written in 9 of 10 areas of the Dewey Decimal System. Many consider him to be the greatest science fiction writer of all time, myself included. If you don't believe me, read The Last Question and/or watch I, Robot, the movie with Will Smith based on his book of the same title. He has become one of my favorite authors recently. I highly recommend his work.

Pacific

The ocean mist warms my soul
The tide brings in safety
Those who belong to her eventually come back

Vast and static
She entices you to come
Ebb and flo, to and fro

Every motion is but a moment
Sweeping away past marks
Scars left upon the sand

The dock is calling
"Bear your weight"
Watching the horizon

Thinking about what may happen, what did happen
Vessels sailing in, one by one
Unloading their burdens

Upon the piers
Accordions and percussion mimic her
The way she goes about things

Graceful and powerful
All-encompassing
Pacific

Check it

Hey everyone, I encourage you to go check out the band Menomena. They're an indie band from Portland, OR that I discovered in 2007 when I went to Bumbershoot Music Festival in Seattle. It's 3 guys, one who plays keys, one who drums, and one who plays saxophone/baritone guitar/anything else and they all share singing duty. They have 3 albums out and one EP. They're signed onto Barsuk Records, the same label that Death Cab for Cutie, Nada Surf, and Ra Ra Riot are on. If you don't like it at first, just keep listening, they'll grow on you. Check them out at http://myspace.com/menomena

also here's their awesome music video, Evil Bee

Gene Wojciechowski, I hate you

Go here and then read my response : http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=wojciechowski_gene&id=3946294&sportCat=nfl

WARNING: This post may contain no fluid structure, it's just a ton of thoughts put down in no particular order.

What the hell does he have against the Broncos? He wrote for the Denver Post. Isn't it a sin to hate the Broncos and anything affiliated with them while living there? Cutler is an amazing QB and I think he is the foundation of the Broncos. I don't care if Cutler is 17-20. Some of those losses are his fault because he's not the best at hanging onto the ball, but he produces numbers that only the greats have. Hey ever think of the defensive troubles and lack of a good running back? Champ Bailey was hurt for most of the season and they had no difinitive starter at running back. Why not work on upping those areas of the game and keeping Cutler? You have a rising star in Cutler and he's sure to produce every time he steps on the field. Unless someone with talent like Adrian Peterson comes over to Denver (highly doubtful), there is no need for Cutler to leave. Cutler has every natural right to complain about his situation. McDaniels totally left Cutler out of the loop. I know Superbowls do not make a QB great. Marino didn't win and many consider him to be the greatest QB ever to play the game. The thing is, he made the Pro Bowl year after year after year by playing outstanding football. Cutler made the Pro Bowl in only his 2nd full season as a starter. Where did Cassel end up? Not in Hawaii...

Hey Gene, do the world a favor and shut your trap.

Steampunk

Thanks to StumbleUpon, I discovered the name of something cool. If you liked all the gadgets and trinkets in the 1999 movie Wild Wild West (yes the one that one the Razzie aka worst film of the year), then checkout Steampunk. I had no idea that "Steampunk" was even a term. Google it, there's some crazy stuff out there...

RhythMeloHarmony

Let it take you for a ride
Glide you across the skies
In and out of wisps
Float upon the melody
Let it enthrone you
Working for you
Crown you king for a few
Engulfed in the harmony
Let it put you down
Lull you to bed
Close your eyes and forget
Subdued by the rhythm
